Picture this, it's hard to picture but try, a whole city floating on water. No cars. Water taxis. Pigeons.
We arrived to Venice Sunday morning January 25th. The train ride was two hours which wasn't bad. The minute we stepped out of the train station the beauty began. The sun beams glimmering off the water and the buildings were amazing. It was mid morning so we had all day in Venice.
We explored the city streets.
We had two sites in mind, The Jewish Ghetto and San Marco Square. On the way to San Marco Square Gloria decided she wanted a kabob. So we stopped in this one shop.
Everyone knows I hate pigeons and if you don't, you don't know me lol. Anyways, Gloria is getting her kabob and this stray dog walks into the store going after this pigeon that had walked into the store as well because they think they own the world. This dog scared the pigeon and the pigeon is literally flying and trying to get out of this restaurant. I run out freaking out. The pigeon hits the window, miraculously gets back up and flies out like nothing happened. I am in traumatic shock from this event. These pigeons need to learn their place in the world. Am I right?
We continue and find a Gondola man wearing a striped shirt and a hat. His name is Alex and his family has been in the gondola business for as long as he can remember. Alex has been a Gondolier for 20 years. He hopes that this kids continue the tradition, but only if they want to, he is open to other jobs as well for them to pursue.
The crew on the Gondola
After the amazing gondola ride we continued the streets of Venice. Cars and bikes are outlawed in Venice because there are so many bridges. That was a really cool feature of the city.
San Marcos square was nice, lots of pigeons. There were people feeding them.
After the square we bought masks and took pictures by the water.
